The new Grow a Garden update is finally here, and it arrived packed with tons of new pets and abilities that are completely broken.
If you enjoy Grow a Garden, this is the ultimate post where I explain all the pet abilities from the new Smithing Event, how to obtain them, their effects, and which ones are truly worth getting.
Ways to Obtain the New Pets
In the Smithing Event, you’ll be able to obtain pets through different mechanics, beyond simply waiting for them to hatch from the current egg.
Gem Egg

As usual, this new update arrived with a new egg where we can obtain the exclusive pets from the Smithing Event:
- Topaz Snail
- Amethyst Beetle
- Emerald Snake
- Sapphire Macaw
- Diamond Panther
- Ruby Squid
Craftable Pets

In addition to the basic pets that hatch from eggs, this update also added pets that can be crafted directly:
- Smithing Dog
- Cheetah
Digging

Just like in the Halloween event, the digging minigame has returned this time with a new theme and new rewards, where we can obtain the following pets:
- Termite
- Goblin Miner
- Trapdoor Spider
- Geode Turtle
All Pets and Their Abilities

Below I explain, pet by pet, what each one does, whether it’s useful, and how broken it really is.
- Termite: Reduces the level of a random pet to level 1.
Is it good or bad? It seems more like a negative or chaotic effect. Its usefulness is questionable.
- Topaz Snail: When you trigger a Lucky Harvest, it harvests 7% to 14% extra. You can also obtain a Purifier Pet Shard (up to 50%). This ability is still somewhat unclear.
- Smithing Dog: Digs and automatically gathers coal. It can find common, rare, or legendary coal, making it an ideal pet for farming during this event.
- Geode Turtle: Converts an advanced sprinkler into a geode sprinkler, essentially making the turtle transform into a living sprinkler.
- Cheetah: Temporarily transforms you into a cheetah, and during that time, the fruits you harvest have a chance to obtain the Wildfast mutation.
- Amethyst Beetle: Every 60–80 seconds, it starts an automatic battle with another beetle. If it wins, you receive a random reward.
- Emerald Snake: Every 60–80 seconds, it converts a random fruit into a gemstone-themed cosmetic.
- Trapdoor Spider: Eats a random fruit from your garden, and nearby fruits have a chance to obtain the Webbed mutation.
- Goblin Miner: Every 5 minutes, it gives you an additional excavation perfect for farming more rewards from the minigame.
- Sapphire Macaw: Every 8–14 minutes, it mutates a nearby fruit with the Crystalized mutation with a 15% probability.
- Diamond Panther: When harvesting a fruit with 12 or more mutations, there is a 4–8% chance that a random pet in your garden will gain 11 years.
- Ruby Squid: Continuously copies the passive ability of a random pet in your garden.
