Grow a Garden - Magic Pets are Worth It?

Grow a Garden is constantly refreshed with events that keep the community active and eager to discover what surprises each new update brings. This time, the Fairy Event Part 2 has not only introduced new plants and mechanics but also, as usual, new pets that have sparked players’ curiosity. Many are wondering whether it’s truly worth investing time and resources in them, or if it’s better to simply pass them by.

Today we’re going to take a look at each of these pets one by one, analyzing their abilities and the real usefulness they can bring to our gameplay.

The Cardinal

Cardinal

The first pet on the list is the Cardinal, a small bird that focuses its abilities on magical plants. Its main effect is to increase the growth speed of these plants by 1.56%.

In theory, it seems like an interesting boost, especially since many of the new plants from the event are of the magical type. However, in practice, it’s not that useful. Most players don’t have exclusively magical gardens; instead, they mix different species from previous seasons. On top of that, magical plants aren’t particularly slow to grow in the first place.

For this reason, while the Cardinal can add to the pet index, its practical usefulness is pretty much negligible.

The Shroomie

Shroomie

Next on the list is the Shroomie, which at first seemed very promising. It was expected to be a direct competitor to the popular Moon Cat, but it comes with a major drawback: its ability depends entirely on the number of mushrooms you have in your garden.

For this pet to reach the level of the Moon Cat, you would need to plant at least 300 mushrooms, which is highly impractical. Moreover, if you use the Triceractos strategy to hit plants and increase their size, a conflict arises.

The advantage Shroomie has over the Moon Cat is that its ability is passive and doesn’t require activation, similar to the Hedgehog or the Toucan. However, its reliance on very specific conditions makes it far less appealing for most players.

The Drake

Drake

The Drake is one of the most talked-about pets in the event and, without a doubt, one of the most useful. Its ability consists of speeding up cooking by breathing fire, which makes the process of creating recipes and materials much faster.

In a game where we increasingly depend on cooking and crafting, this ability can save a lot of time and optimize resources. On top of that, it’s not as difficult to obtain as some of the rarer pets, making it almost essential to keep at least one in your inventory.

Luminous Sprite

Luminous Sprite

The Luminous Sprite fairy is one of the most interesting additions. Although it’s quite costly to obtain, its Luminous mutation provides a multiplier of 50, something you definitely don’t see every day in Grow a Garden.

It’s still uncertain whether this multiplier can be combined with other mutations, which could open the door to far more powerful effects. Even with the lack of information, its potential is enormous, making it worth considering as one of the best additions of the event.

The Wisp

Wisp

The Wisp differs from other pets because it requires a special item, a wisp well, to activate its ability. This well can be purchased with fairy points, which aren’t easy to obtain due to the large number of items and pets that also require this currency.

Once activated, the Wisp offers an effect similar to that of the Blood Owl, granting 0.75 experience per second to all pets. This makes it a very interesting option for new players who don’t have a Capybara, a pet that can currently only be obtained through the Summer Traveling Shop egg or by trading with other players.

If you’re looking for a straightforward and accessible way to gain experience for your pets, the Wisp is an excellent alternative, though it will depend on whether you can afford the Wisp well.

The Phoenix

Phoenix

Now we come to the Phoenix, one of the most striking pets in terms of design, but also one of the most controversial. Many players find it disappointing because, to get the most out of it, you need at least eight Phoenixes together.

Its first ability grants pets coming out of the mutation machine the chance to gain between one and five additional years of age. Its second ability, however, is more appealing: every 6 hours and 40 minutes, the Phoenix grants the Flaming mutation to four plants in the garden, with a multiplier of 25. The issue is that this multiplier is only half of what the Luminous Sprite offers.

Ranking of the Best Pets

After analyzing them one by one, we can organize them into a ranking based on their practical usefulness for players:

- The Dragon: essential for its ability to speed up cooking.

- Luminous Sprite: a high multiplier that can change the course of the game.

- The Phoenix: although it requires multiple copies, its mutations can be useful.

- The Wisp: recommended for those who don’t have a Capybara and want consistent experience gain.

- The Shroomie: situational, depends on planting a large number of mushrooms.

- The Cardinal: the least useful, its effect is far too limited.
