Greetings, aspiring adventurers of Old School RuneScape! In the vast realm of Gielinor, where treasures await at every turn, one often-overlooked skill stands out—Gem Cutting. Gems, coveted for their beauty and versatility, play a crucial role in Crafting. Today, we delve into the intricate process of cutting gems, an art that combines resourcefulness and skill. Whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer eager to unlock the secrets of Gielinor, let's embark on a journey to master the craft of gem cutting!
Gems are valuable stones that are primarily used in Crafting. They can be obtained from Mining (either randomly while mining other ores or from gem rocks), as a frequent drop from a wide range of monsters via part of the rare drop table or occasionally given out as gifts from various random events. Many types of gems can be purchased or sold (or stolen) at gem shops, identified with a red gem icon on the map.
While mining most ore rocks or Motherlode Mine ore veins, players have a 1/256 chance of receiving a gem instead of an ore; this does not deplete the ore rock. Wearing a charged amulet of glory (of any number of charges other than 0) increases this chance to 1/86; wearing one while mining gem rocks increases the speed at which they are mined. It may be worth noting that the gems found randomly whilst mining most ores do not grant any additional Mining experience. Mining gems from gem rocks, however, does grant experience.

Now equipped with a diverse collection of gems, the next step is to cut them into exquisite forms. Acquire a chisel, a basic tool found in general stores and charter ship traders. Ensure that your Crafting level aligns with the gems you wish to cut.
Begin with Opals at level one Crafting, progressing through Jade, Red Topaz, Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies, Diamonds, Dragonstones, Onyxes, and finally, Zenytes. As your Crafting level advances, so does your ability to cut increasingly valuable and rare gems.
Using the Crafting skill, gems can be cut. From there, they can be made into jewellery, which can then be enchanted using the Magic skill, or into gem bolt tips using the Fletching skill.

The journey begins with the acquisition of gems, and there are various paths to amass these precious stones. Mining stands as a reliable source, with a chance to obtain gems while mining ore rocks. Advanced miners, having completed the "Shilo Village" quest, can mine gem rocks, offering a faster route to building a gem collection.
Alternatively, gems can be obtained through combat – monsters and enemies frequently drop them. Slayer training proves beneficial, presenting opportunities to collect gems while honing combat skills. The mysterious Brimstone Keys, acquired from Slayer Master Konar, unlock the Brimstone Chest, showering players with a wealth of noted gems.
Random events, those spontaneous occurrences in your adventures, bring surprises, including valuable gems. Keep an eye out for these events and reap the rewards they offer. For those skilled in thievery, gem stalls in various locations beckon, offering a chance to steal gems or purchase them from specialized shops scattered across Gielinor.
