[OSRS] Bond Guide 2023

Introduction to Old School RuneScape Bonds

Old School RuneScapeBonds are an in-game item that allows players to trade for goods, services, or even in-game currency. One of their primary functions is to act as a way for players to pay for their RuneScape membership with in-game resources. Bonds provide an official and secure method of trading real-life money for in-game benefits.

How Old School RuneScape Bonds Are Obtained

There are two primary ways of obtaining Bonds in Old School RuneScape:

  1. Purchase with Real Money: Bonds can be bought from the official Old School RuneScape website using real currency. This is the most straightforward method of acquiring Bonds. The cost varies depending on the number of Bonds you purchase at a time and your location.

  2. In-Game Trade: Players can also trade Bonds between each other in-game. This is done by simply exchanging the Bond from one player to another, usually in return for in-game currency (GP or Gold Pieces). Some players will buy Bonds with real money and then sell them in-game for GP. This gives players who have an excess of in-game resources a way to gain membership without having to pay real money.

How to Use Old School RuneScape Bonds

Once you've got a Bond, there are several ways you can use it:

  1. Membership: This is the most common use for Bonds. One Bond can be redeemed for 14 days of Old School RuneScape membership. This grants you access to member-only skills, areas, quests, and other benefits.

  2. In-Game Trade: You can also use Bonds to trade with other players. This can be beneficial if you're looking to buy a specific item or service from another player. You can also hold onto a Bond and sell it when the market price is high.

  3. RuneCoins and Treasure Hunter Keys: Bonds can be redeemed for RuneCoins (the currency used in the RuneScape 3 version's Solomon's General Store) or Treasure Hunter Keys (used in RuneScape 3's Treasure Hunter mini-game), if you also play RuneScape 3.

  4. Old School RuneScape Name Change: If you fancy changing your character's name, you can use one Bond to do it immediately, instead of waiting for the free monthly name change.

Important Considerations

  1. Tradeable and Untradeable Bonds: When Bonds are purchased, they are initially untradeable. To trade a Bond, it must be made tradeable by paying a fee in in-game currency (GP). Once a Bond is traded to another player, it becomes untradeable again. An untradeable Bond can be made tradeable again, but the player will have to pay a fee in GP. A Bond becomes untradeable once redeemed, as well.

  2. Market Fluctuations: The in-game price of Bonds in terms of GP can fluctuate, just like any other tradable item. Supply and demand drive these price changes.

  3. Safe and Fair Play: Bonds provide a secure way to trade real-world money for in-game benefits. However, it's important to avoid third-party services promising cheap or free Bonds, as these are often scams and can result in a banned account.

  4. Inflation and Game Balance: The introduction of Bonds has the potential to disrupt the in-game economy, as they can introduce more GP into the game, leading to inflation. However, Old School RuneScape's developers have designed the system to minimize this impact as much as possible.

Old School RuneScape Bonds are a versatile tool that can benefit a wide range of players. Whether you're a veteran looking to trade in some of your GP for membership, or a new player who wants to kickstart your journey with some extra resources, Bonds provide an interesting and dynamic aspect to the RuneScape economy.
