OSRS - Greater Corruption Overview

Greater Corruption is a powerful spell in the Arceuus spellbook that demands a high level of mastery in Magic, requiring a level 85 Magic and the completion of the quest "A Kingdom Divided" to be cast.

When Greater Corruption is successfully cast, the player’s next successful hit has a 50% chance of corrupting the target. The corruption effect gradually drains the target’s Prayer points over time. Specifically, the target will lose Prayer points in three stages every 10 ticks (6 seconds):

1. First Activation: The target loses 2 Prayer points.
2. Second Activation: The target loses 4 Prayer points.
3. Third Activation: The target loses 6 Prayer points.

This results in a total of 12 Prayer points drained over 30 ticks (18 seconds).

Interaction with Mark of Darkness

If the player casts the Mark of Darkness buff before inflicting corruption, the Prayer drain interval is halved to every 5 ticks (3 seconds). This adjustment changes the total duration of the effect:

1. First Activation: The target loses 2 Prayer points.
2. Second Activation: The target loses 4 Prayer points.
3. Third Activation: The target loses 6 Prayer points.

Thus, the total of 12 Prayer points is drained over 15 ticks (9 seconds).

Corruption Mechanics and Immunity

- Non-Stackable: Players cannot corrupt a target that is already corrupted. There is no immunity period after the corruption effect wears off, making the target susceptible to re-corruption immediately.

- Ward of Arceuus Protection: Targets protected by the Ward of Arceuus spell are immune to corruption. If an attacker with active corruption spells hits a player protected by the Ward, the corruption effect does not apply until the Ward expires. Post-expiration, the next successful hit will then trigger the chance for corruption.

Strategic Use

The Greater Corruption spell is a strategic tool in both PvP and PvM scenarios, enabling players to deplete their opponents’ Prayer points efficiently. Combining this with Mark of Darkness can enhance the spell’s effectiveness by increasing the frequency of Prayer drains, thus providing a tactical advantage in prolonged engagements.
