Preparing for the Journey to Mort'ton

Before setting off to Mort'ton, it's crucial to ensure you have all the necessary items with you, as the journey can be quite lengthy. Unless you've at least initiated the "In Aid of the Myreque" quest and repaired the bank in Burgh de Rott, accessing a bank from Mort'ton can be quite inconvenient.

The fastest means to reach Mort'ton is by using Mort'ton teleport scrolls. Alternatively, if you have access to Fairy rings, you can take the ring with the code "bkr" and head to the boat located at The Hollows for your second quickest option. For those with an Agility level of 50 or higher, use the ring with the code "bip" and utilize the hopping stone to reach the swamp. If you've completed the hard Morytania diary, you can teleport to Burgh de Rott using Morytania Legs 3 and then proceed north. Another viable option is to use a Barrows teleport tablet and then head west.

If none of the above methods are available, follow these directions to reach Mort'ton: Start by heading west from Canifis until you come across a farming patch. Proceed south-west through the gate to access Mort Myre Swamp. From this point, head west toward the river and follow it, moving south until you reach a bridge. Continue along the path, disregarding two dead ends along the way, until you arrive at Mort'ton.

Please note that you must have initiated the "Nature Spirit" quest to gain access to the gate leading to Mort Myre Swamp.

Starting the Quest - Gathering Essential Items

To commence the "Shades of Mort'ton" quest, begin by heading to the southwestern house in Mort'ton. Search the shelf on the wall inside the house to find an important book.

start point

Additionally, investigate the smashed table in the same location, as it contains two Tarromin herbs and a Rogue's purse. Keep the Tarromin herbs, as they will be needed to create additional potions later in the quest. The Rogue's purse is not used in this particular quest, so you can safely discard it unless you plan to undertake the "Zogre Flesh Eaters" quest in the future.

Furthermore, this building houses a vial spawn, which can be helpful if you didn't bring vials of water with you. You can fill the vials at the sink located in the easternmost building for your convenience.

Creating Serum 207 and Interacting with Town Afflicted

Reading the book you found enables you to craft Serum 207. To make this serum, you will need a water-filled vial, tarromin, and ashes. You can utilize Serum 207 on the afflicted townspeople with specific names to engage in brief conversations with them. It's advisable to bring multiple sets of ingredients to craft additional potions if needed. Crafting at least one Serum 207 yourself is essential for quest progression, even if you intend to trade for more.

Firstly, create a Serum 207 by adding ashes to a Tarromin potion (unf). Then, use this serum on Razmire Keelgan in the general store. Razmire will request that you eliminate 5 Loar Shades (the level 40 green shadows) and gather their remains. Remember to speak with Razmire before slaying the five shades; otherwise, your kills won't count toward the requirement. You must personally defeat the five shades; purchasing five remains from another player won't suffice. Once you've completed this task (you'll receive a chat notice saying "That's all five Shades!"), return to Razmire, use Serum 207 on him again, and he will take two of the shade remains from you.

Next, open the general store through Razmire and buy some olive oil. Then, ask him to open the builder's store and purchase at least one timber beam, one limestone brick, and five swamp paste for each timber/limestone.

Proceed to Ulsquire Shauncy, who resides in the house to the southeast (marked with a water source on the minimap). Administer a dose of Serum 207 to him, followed by one of your shade remains. Speak with him again, asking what he has learned about the shades; he will humorously mention rebuilding the temple and experimenting with the sacred flame. Also, inquire about what he can tell you regarding the temple, which is situated northeast of the general store on a small island. Note that you should exhaust all available conversation options with Ulsquire (options 1, 2, 3, and 4) to progress the quest effectively. Failure to do so will prevent you from interacting with the temple and engaging in the associated minigame tasks.

Rebuilding the Temple and Creating Sacred Oil

Now, you must reconstruct the temple to produce the sacred oil required for a pyre funeral. Refer to the Shades of Mort'ton (minigame) for detailed instructions on how this works.

A Flamtaer bracelet, along with the Flamtaer hammer, enables you to independently build the temple. It's advisable to bring at least two or three bracelets if you're attempting this solo. Having a higher Crafting level will speed up the building and repair process of the temple.

World 377 is dedicated to rebuilding the temple, making it an ideal choice if you seek assistance. This part of the quest progresses much faster with multiple players involved. With five or six players, two or three can focus on building the walls while the rest distract shades from damaging the walls, allowing for a successful build within a few minutes.

You can use the Grouping interface or complete the quest with friends to find other players who can assist in temple repair. Peak activity at the Shades of Mort'ton minigame usually occurs between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm EST (4:00 pm to 7:00 pm GMT). It may be challenging to locate other players through the Grouping interface outside of these hours.

As you defend and repair the temple, your Sanctity percentage will gradually increase. Sanctity is earned by defeating Loar Shades or using your building materials to construct/repair parts of the temple.

To advance the quest, light the flame once the temple is fully constructed, and combine the olive oil with the sacred flame to create sacred oil. You will need 10% Sanctity to accomplish this, a percentage that should be easily reached during the temple's construction.

If you wish to permanently cure the afflicted townsfolk (particularly useful for the general store), use a vial of Serum 207 on the sacred flame with 20% Sanctity to craft Serum 208. It's highly recommended to administer a dose of Serum 208 to both Razmire and Ulsquire to cure their afflictions permanently.

Tip: To sanctify both olive oil and Serum 207, accumulate over 20% sanctity, sanctify the olive oil first, and then the Serum 207. The latter consumes 20% sanctity regardless of the number of doses, whereas olive oil uses up 0.9% per dose.

Completing the Pyre Funerals

Now that you have the sacred oil, locate a dead tree and use the sacred oil on the logs to obtain a pyre log. Next, go to one of the funeral pyres, which are indicated as brown patches on the map west of the General Store. Use the pyre logs on the funeral pyre, followed by the Loar remains. Ignite the pyre, and you will witness a spirit ascending from the flames.

Completing the Pyre Funerals

Collect your reward from the stone pillar next to the pyre and then return to Ulsquire. Engage in conversation with him to bring the quest to a conclusion. If Ulsquire has reverted to being afflicted, use a serum on him.

Congratulations! Quest Complete!
