In this article, we will offer you our first impressions, an objective analysis of what we have seen so far. How to test Sailing Alpha?

To dive into the Sailing Alpha, you must access the Beta worlds. But first, a small adjustment is necessary. Go to "Settings", then to "Gameplay", scroll to the bottom of the tab and activate "Convert save to beta worlds". This will transfer your main account data to the Beta worlds, preventing you from starting with a level 3 account.

It is important to note that access from the mobile application is not available. Also, if you use Runelite, like many of us, you will need to disable the "GPU" and "117 HD" plugins to log in and access.

First Impressions

Once you've accessed the Beta worlds, you'll find yourself at the Port Sarim docks, the starting point for Sailing. Here, NPCs Will and Anne will offer you the 'Pandemonium' quest, which is essentially the tutorial introducing you to the fundamentals of this new skill.

The first thing you'll notice is the navigation mechanic. While functional, it still feels somewhat rough and needs polishing. Once you complete the introductory quest, you'll unlock the ability to complete 'transport tasks.' These navigation activities involve picking up missions from notice boards at the docks and completing objectives, which will provide you with Sailing experience and resources. Essentially, it's about traveling from point A to point B, but with the promise of discovering new horizons.

For exploration enthusiasts, Sailing will be a delight. You'll be able to discover new locations in Gielinor, contemplate familiar landscapes from a different perspective, face never-before-seen beasts, and embark on extravagant quests. And this is just the beginning. If the Jagex team dedicates enough attention to this skill, the potential for future content is immense.

The ways to progress in Sailing are diverse and not limited to transport tasks. As development progresses, more methods will be added, ensuring a varied and entertaining experience. The promise of discovering the seas of Gielinor and exploring new lands is exciting, and over time, Sailing could become one of the most beloved skills in Old School RuneScape, and not just a minigame as many debate.

Gameplay

The Sailing gameplay introduces a radical change to navigation in Gielinor. Forget the classic point-and-click on the map; now, in addition to clicking, you'll have small mechanics to accelerate, slow down, or completely stop your ship.

Gameplay

Ship Interface and Control:

- Upon boarding your first ship, the combat interface transforms into a navigation interface. Here you'll find vital information: ship name, facilities, statistics, and crew.

- You can own up to three ships, and larger ones allow for multi-player voyages.

- The helm, located at the stern, is the control center. Clicking on it will display a white arrow indicating the cursor's direction. A click will set the course.

- Speed is adjusted with arrows on the interface; you can even navigate in reverse! An on/off button allows you to instantly stop and resume movement.

Navigation Mechanics:

- Every 30 seconds, a gust of wind gives you the opportunity to adjust the sails, earning 50 Sailing experience points and a speed boost.

- Ships have hit points that are reduced by combat, obstacles, and turbulent waters. If they reach zero, you'll shipwreck, lose your cargo, and be transported to the nearest port. You'll have to pay gold to recover your ship.

- There are three water depths (shallow, open, and deep), which limit ship access based on size and hull strength.

Barracuda Trials and Shipwreck Salvaging

Two activities stand out in the Sailing Alpha, offering contrasting and entertaining experiences!

Shipwreck Salvaging:

This activity is ideal for those seeking a more relaxed experience. It consists of rescuing wreckage from shipwrecks sunk in the ocean. You'll deploy salvage hooks and collect resources, obtaining a small amount of Sailing experience. It's a calm way to progress, perfect for more leisurely gaming moments.

Barracuda Trials:

If you prefer more action, Barracuda Trials is for you. You'll have to overcome an obstacle course, delivering rum and lost cargo to the Barracudas as quickly as possible. In return, you'll receive Sailing experience and valuable rewards. It's a challenging activity that will test your skill and speed.

Both activities demonstrate the diversity of Sailing, offering options for different playstyles. Whether you seek relaxation or excitement, you'll find something that suits your preferences in this new skill.
