START
Items required: Full mourner gear, chisel, three free inventory spaces for quest items.
Recommended: Elf teleport crystal, teleport to Ardougne, food and armour/prayer potions to run past high level monsters
Commence your journey by conversing with Arianwyn in Lletya. He will instruct you to halt the mourners from excavating beneath West Ardougne and emphasize the necessity of obtaining a key from Essyllt to gain entry into the excavation site.
Subsequently, don your full mourner gear, and be sure to carry a teleport crystal, along with some food if your Defense is low or you lack 43 Prayer for Protect from Melee. Also, remember to bring a chisel. Make your way to the basement of the Mourner HQ in Ardougne and engage in conversation with Essyllt.
Upon speaking with him, you will be granted a new key to access the nearby tunnels leading to the Temple of Light. Your task is to locate the digging team. Exit the head mourner's room and unlock the door situated on the western wall. Proceed into the tunnel where you will encounter level 182 Dark beasts.
Important: Ironmen can acquire a catalytic talisman as a reward from the Guardians of the Rift minigame or obtain a death talisman by defeating the dark beasts (requiring 90 Slayer), which will considerably save time later in the quest.
Swiftly maneuver past the Dark beasts while fervently praying Protect from Melee to reach the entrance of the temple. Here, you'll witness a cutscene featuring the digging team, and shortly after, you may face an attack from
level 73 Shadows. Take a moment to search the corpse of the guard slumped against the northern wall to acquire Edern's Journal.
Proceed in a westerly direction and access the Temple of Light.
- Ascend the set of stairs located just west of the entrance, leading you to the middle floor.
- Next, utilize the ladder ingeniously built into the south wall, which will take you to the top floor.
- Navigate to the northern section of the top floor using the middle stairs.
- Now, head east until you reach the ominous blackened crystal.
- Equip your chisel and skillfully apply it to the crystal, effectively breaking off a piece of the blackened crystal.
Teleport to Lletya and return to Arianwyn. In his presence, Eluned will be summoned, and she will enchant the black crystal in your possession, transforming it into a newly crafted crystal. This enchanted crystal will play a crucial role towards the quest's conclusion. Once the enchanting is complete, engage in another conversation with Arianwyn. Brace yourself, as you are about to face a challenging and potentially frustrating puzzle.
Should you happen to misplace your crystal during the course of the quest, fear not, for Arianwyn will readily provide you with a replacement.
The light puzles
Items required: Full mourner gear, the new key, one rope. If you're planning to complete the puzzles in a single trip, bring a catalytic talisman/catalytic tiara/death talisman/death talisman/death tiara, and the newly made crystal too. One teleport out. Two or more free inventory spaces.
Recommended equipment: Weight-reducing clothing, high Prayer bonus gear and a weapon; or high-defence armour and a weapon
Recommended items: Prayer potions,(Highly recommended) stamina potions, food, summer pies/agility potions, pure essence (needed for Hard Ardougne Diary if you have 65 Runecraft)
If you wish to tackle the puzzle in a single trip, ensure you bring the mourner clothing, the newly acquired key, the enchanted crystal, and either a catalytic/death talisman. Also, don't forget to have your trusty rope at hand. As you progress through the puzzle, you'll find that you need more inventory space to accommodate the mirrors and crystals utilized in the puzzle. Your inventory space will naturally free up as you consume prayer potions and food. Alternatively, if you find yourself lacking inventory space, you have the option to pick up only some of the mirrors and crystals, return to get more, and continue the puzzle.
To begin the puzzle, you will need 4 open inventory spaces, which will increase to 13 spaces as you approach the final steps. Remember, you are free to bank at any time, particularly after completing each puzzle section. Keep in mind that leaving the puzzle midway won't reset your progress when you return, but please note that the mirrors and crystals obtained within the temple cannot be banked, so it's not recommended to exit and return.
If you encounter difficulty rotating mirrors while under attack, there's a helpful tip: on PC, you can press 1 to rotate the mirror as soon as the dialogue prompt appears. This will grant you one or two rotation attempts between each attack, making the process smoother.

- When you're ready to leave, make sure to turn the light back towards the entrance door, otherwise to get back in here you will have to go through the Underground Pass to get back. (Do note that the route through the Underground Pass does not require a mourner set nor a new key so it can be a good option to save some inventory space per trip if entering through the entrance on Lletya)
- Pass through to the Death Altar.
The Death Altar
Items required: a death talisman/death tiara OR the 50 items below (suggested only for Ironmen due to the tediousness of this). If you bring the death talisman, take the newly made crystal too.
You can skip this whole section if you have already bought/acquired a catalytic talisman, catalytic tiara, death talisman, or death tiara.
Upon passing through the final door, engage in conversation with the dwarf, Thorgel. You'll exchange inquiries about your respective journeys to the altar, and to your surprise, Thorgel will disclose the existence of a passage from the Underground Pass, crafted by him and his companions. Curious about Klank, you inquire if Thorgel knows of him, and it dawns on him that you are the one who vanquished Iban.
Acknowledging your previous feat, Thorgel agrees to trade you a valuable death talisman. In exchange, he requests some supplies from you. Be prepared to negotiate this trade with the dwarf and continue your quest with this newfound advantage.
He gives you an item list that tells you what you need to get him:
- Babydragon bones
- Ball of wool
- Bronze bar
- Bronze med helm
- Bucket of milk
- Cake tin
- Cheese
- Chisel

The needed book is chosen randomly.

The needed key is chosen randomly.

Warning: If you decide to teleport out of the area, exercise caution and ensure that you turn the mirror towards the cyan door before doing so! Failing to do this will result in locking yourself out, and you'll need to go through the Underground Pass and access the Temple of Light using the tunnel inside the dwarf camp. The entrance at the dwarf camp is conveniently close to Lletya, which is situated nearby the elven land entrance to the Underground Pass. Navigating through the Underground Pass in reverse to reach the dwarf village proves to be much simpler. To accomplish this, first enter the dungeon from the elven side, descend down the well, and proceed to the dwarf camp. The tunnel you seek is located directly south of the main building. Although it is not marked on the minimap, it's essential to locate it for a smooth journey.
The power of death
To charge your newly repaired crystal, employ your catalytic talisman or death talisman at the Death Altar. Alternatively, you can equip the corresponding tiara if you possess one. Once equipped, use the crystal on the altar to imbue it with power.
Should you have 65 Runecrafting and brought pure essence with you, this is an excellent opportunity to craft a death rune, fulfilling a step in the hard Ardougne Diary.
Exit the Death Altar, and then leave the final chamber. Navigate your way back to the black crystal you first encountered at the beginning of the quest. Make use of your charged crystal on the black crystal, thereby preventing anyone from entering the temple for the next thousand years!
Return to Lletya and speak to Arianwyn to claim your well-earned reward for completing this challenging quest. Your journey through "Mourning's End Part II" will be one to remember, as you safeguard the secrets of the Temple of Light from prying eyes!
The temple's safeguard is now restored.
