Guardians of the Rift is an engaging, non-combat minigame set within the mystical Temple of the Eye. The primary objective is to aid The Great Guardian in sealing an abyssal rift that leads to the Scar, the most perilous area of Abyssal Space. Players achieve this by providing the guardian with guardian stones and defending it against the abyssal creatures that emerge from the rift.
Gameplay Mechanics:
- Energy Collection: Throughout the game, players collect two types of energy: elemental and catalytic. These energies are essential for both protecting The Great Guardian and closing the rift.
- Earning Points: Players earn points and Runecraft experience at the end of each game. The Runecraft experience awarded is calculated as the player's Runecraft level multiplied by 45, provided they accumulate at least 150 total energy during the game.
- Elemental and Catalytic Points: For every 100 units of elemental energy collected, a player earns one elemental point, with similar rules applying to catalytic energy. If a player gathers less than 100 units, there's still a chance of earning a point proportionate to the energy collected (e.g., 73 elemental energy gives a 73% chance of receiving one elemental point).
- Reward System: These points can be used at the Rewards Guardian, located just outside the rift gate. Players can exchange their points here for various rewards.
- Energy Cap: A player can earn a maximum of 1,200 total energy per game (increased to 1,320 when using the abyssal lantern burning yew logs), with a cap of 1,000 per type of energy.
The strategic collection and utilization of energy, along with efficient management of guardian stones and defense mechanisms, are crucial for succeeding in Guardians of the Rift. This minigame not only tests players' Runecrafting skills but also their ability to work under pressure and manage resources effectively.
