The Crystal Pickaxe is a specialized mining tool available in the game. To create and use it, players must have a Mining level of 71 and have completed the "Song of the Elves" quest. Additionally, a minimum of 50 Agility and 70 Attack is required to wield the pickaxe effectively.

In terms of its special abilities, the Crystal Pickaxe shares the same special attack as the Dragon Pickaxe. Excluding the time spent waiting for ores to respawn or transitioning to a new resource, the Crystal Pickaxe provides a notable increase in mining efficiency. It offers a 3.03% boost in overall mining speed when compared to a Dragon Pickaxe and a substantial 9.09% improvement over a Rune Pickaxe.

It's important to note that in player versus player (PvP) situations, a dangerous death will cause the Crystal Pickaxe to revert to a Dragon Pickaxe, which will then be dropped for the player who defeated its owner. In such cases, all crystal shards will be lost.

How to create the Crystal Pickaxe

To obtain a Crystal Pickaxe, players can use a singing bowl to combine a Dragon Pickaxe, 120 crystal shards, and a crystal tool seed. This process requires a Smithing and Crafting level of 76 (which can be boosted). Successfully creating the Crystal Pickaxe grants 6,000 experience points in both Smithing and Crafting.

Special Attack and Stats

The Crystal Pickaxe features a special attack called "Rock Knocker," which provides a temporary boost to the player's Mining level by 3. To utilize this special attack, players must have a minimum of 70 Attack and 50 Agility. The activation of the special attack consumes 100% of the player's special attack energy.

It's worth noting that, given the requirements to wield the pickaxe (50 Agility and 70 Attack), players can start using the special attack for mining at 70 Mining. The special attack is a useful tool for enhancing mining efficiency.

However, it's important to be aware that any Mining levels boosted above 99 through the special attack will be treated as if they are 99. Therefore, players will experience diminishing returns when using the special attack at levels 97 and 98, with no additional value gained when activating the special attack at level 99.

Degradation

The Crystal Pickaxe, upon creation, initially possesses 10,000 charges and undergoes degradation, typical of all crystal equipment. Each time the pickaxe is used to mine ore, one charge is depleted. Once all charges have been used up, the pickaxe continues to function but behaves like a regular Dragon Pickaxe.

Wearing an Elven Signet or a Celestial Signet while using the crystal equipment provides a 10% chance to avoid consuming charges, offering a potential conservation of its durability.

However, the crystal pickaxe does not consume charges during certain activities where it does not provide any specific benefits over other pickaxes or the Dragon Pickaxe. These activities include:

1. Mining rocks in the Abyss
2. Mining through a rockfall obstacle in the Chambers of Xeric
3. Fighting guardians with a pickaxe
4. Mining the boulders in the Viyeldi caves
5. Mining salts in the Salt Mine
6. Mining the rubble in Burgh de Rott during In Aid of the Myreque
7. Mining dense essence in the dense essence mine
8. Mining the rockfalls at the Motherlode Mine (although the ore veins do benefit)
9. Mining barriers or Het's Seal within the Path of Het in the Tombs of Amascut

To replenish charges in the crystal pickaxe, players can use crystal shards on it, either before it becomes inactive or after. Each crystal shard added grants 100 charges, and the pickaxe can hold a maximum of 20,000 charges (requiring 200 shards).

It's important to note that dismantling a crystal pickaxe will return the Dragon Pickaxe and the crystal tool seed to the player. However, this action results in the loss of all previously added crystal shard charges.
